Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injections used to fill out wrinkles and creases in the skin. They are also used in lip augmentation, cheeks augmentation and jawline/chin correction procedures. Fillers are popular with those seeking a swift, non-surgical solution for ageing skin that has lost volume as the collagen that previously helped to shape and support it has disappeared.

During your appointment at Deoma Aesthetics you may be offered a local anaesthetic cream or injection. The practitioner injects the filler in a series of small injections and may massage the area. The treatment time can vary from 30 minutes to an hour.

The fillers are made from a variety of materials and the length of time that the effects last will vary depending on the type of filler. We only use the best and safest dermal filler to ensure maximum results.

  • Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin’s connective tissue and is the most common filler used for wrinkles. The results typically last about six months to one year.
  • Calcium hydroxylapatite is a type of filler used to contour the jaw line, restore volume in the cheeks, and treat deeper wrinkles and skin folds. The results last up to one year when used for contouring and three years when used to fill wrinkles.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatments V Dermal Fillers

Anti-Wrinkle injections are amongst the most popular non-surgical aesthetic procedure in the UK. The injections work on the upper part of the face to relax the muscles and smooth out the skin, although they can also be used to treat gummy smiles, smoker’s lines and to slim the jaw line. Anti-wrinkle injections work to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, in particular frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines and top lip lines.

Dermal fillers are different as they are designed to fill out hollows and wrinkles without treating the muscle underneath. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers replace lost collagen for improved skin elasticity and a more youthful appearance. Dermal Fillers are typically used to create volume in cheeks, to lift and shape the brows, boost thin lips and enhance the chin and jawlines.

The key difference is that dermal fillers work to replace lost volume and plump up the skin whilst anti-wrinkle injections work on specific areas and target all the way down to the core of the muscle for long-term effects.

FAQS

Dermal fillers are suitable for most people. The body's collagen production starts to decline from the age of 25, so this treatment would be recommended for most ages too. You should avoid dermal fillers if you have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products.  In addition, if you have bleeding disorders, active skin diseases, infection or tumors near the area to be treated, you should consult your GP before having a dermal filler treatment.

When performed by appropriately trained, qualified practitioners, dermal fillers are very safe. Unlike silicone (a filler previously used in cosmetic medicine) HA fillers are made from a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. This means that the filler will eventually be broken down by the body, so if you decide you prefer not to continue to have your lines filled, simply wait a few months and the filler will disappear.

Full aftercare instructions are given following treatment with dermal filler. Although you are more than welcome to get in touch if you have any questions, no follow-up is usually needed at the clinic. Depending on the area of the face treated, and the type of product used, filler usually last from between 6-18 months.

You may feel some mild discomfort when the filler is being injected into the face, although we can apply a topical numbing cream to the area we are going to treat. Your DNA Aesthetics specialist will discuss this with you at your initial consultation.

To enjoy the full benefits of your dermal filler treatment we do not recommend a night on the town. The following aftercare advice should be taken and your aesthetician will explain these at your appointment also.

For 6 hours following your dermal fillers treatment you should not wear makeup
Do not touch the injected area and remain in an upright position - do not lie down
For 48 hours after the treatment, you should not drink alcohol
Avoid making extreme facial expressions
Avoid heat-inducing activities including vigorous exercise, hot showers, saunas or sun beds
For 7 days after the treatment, you should not take long-haul flights
For 7 days you should avoid facials and rubbing the treated area.

We recommend allowing 4 weeks to see the full effects of your fillers but, if you are not in love with your new look, you can book in with us to safely dissolve your filler at Extra cost.
